What is the Millennium? It is the period of 1000 years where Jesus Christ will reign on the earth and peace and happiness will exist during this period. The text that definitely brings the millennium into view is in Revelations 20 verse 4 states,
“And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them, and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the Word of God, and which had worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their right hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.”
In verse 5 it reads, “But the rest of the dead live not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection “. It’s beginning (The Millennium) is bounded at each end by a resurrection and also by the seven last plagues, the second coming of Christ, the resurrection of the righteous dead, the binding of Satan, and the translation of saints to immortality; and its close by the decent of New Jerusalem, from heaven, the resurrection of the wicked dead, and the final destruction of the wicked.
The Millennium and the Kingdom of Christ
This first resurrection will usher in the millennium or the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, which will only be given to those who are found worthy to enter therein. Also, giving the ones who will come up in this first resurrection certain exemptions… chiefly the second death which is the lake of fire and brimstone. This is clearly stated in Revelation 20:6 “Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection; on such the second hath no power.”
The millennium is the closing of God’s great week of time, a great Sabbath of rest to the earth and to the people of God. It follows the closing of the age of the gospel, and precedes the setting up of the everlasting kingdom of God on the earth. It comprehends what it is in the scripture frequently spoken of as “the day of rest”. During this thousand years or millennium, the earth becomes a paradise just as in the Garden of Eden.
The governments of the earth will be transformed into the governments or kingdoms of our Lord and His Christ at the seventh or last trumpet. As stated in Revelations 11:15,
“And the seventh angel sounded: and there were very great voices in heaven saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord and his Christ: and he shall reign forever and ever.”
First in order to have a day of rest, you must confine the one who is causing unrest. During this millennium, or day of rest, Satan and his angels will be bound here for 1000 years; and the Saints with Christ shall rule and reign on the earth. The Saints also shall sit in judgment on the wicked, preparatory to their final punishment which is the second death or lake of fire at the end of this millennium period. Let us take a look in the book of Isaiah and see just how good it will be according to the Scriptures.
The Millennium and the Kingdom of Christ Deeply Studied
In the book of Isaiah 14:4-7 it states,
“Thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon and say, How have the oppressor ceased! The golden city ceased! The Lord has broken the staff of the wicked, and the scepter of the rulers. He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted and none hindereth. The whole earth is at rest, and it is quiet; they break forth into singing.”
What this tells us is that the Lord at his return will dismantle all governments and kingdoms, and all those who have oppressed the poor and the needy with unfair practices, wages, and judgments will come to a permanent end. It will be a kingdom that will change the inner nature of mankind as well as animals. It will be a kingdom with the greatest King ever.
He will be a far greater King than all earthly kings and monarchs combined. This is King Jesus who came expressly to earth to found this kingdom. Jesus Christ will come in the power of God, according to the purpose of God to fulfill all the glorious prophecies of God, and all because He is God Himself, King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Here on earth are named some of the animals having the very strongest animal instincts. They are bloodthirsty, ravenous, and with desperate cunningness to kill and destroy. Men by nature also have such instincts; it is also said that every kind of animal may find its likeness among men. When you are told in the Scriptures that the fierce nature of animals shall be changed, it means that all that is wrong and wicked in man can be corrected.
Let us take a closer look at this wonderful picture of the Kingdom of Christ and just how remarkable it is. The wolf is changed in nature to that of a lamb; when before it sought to seize after the sheepfold. The leopard lies down with the kid goat; when before it hunted in the mountains for it. The lion lives peaceably with the calf or ox; when before it has been known to carry it off bodily. The bear now feeds with the cow; when before it was use to hugging the cow to death for a meal. The asp and the cockatrice, one of the smallest and one of the most venomous serpents, become so harmless that a little child may play with them.
This is all a striking picture of the power of the Christ King and his Kingdom. By this power men who swear, who are selfish, sinful and vicious, are made good, gentle, kind and holy. It will be a kingdom that wins over by love and gentleness.
Let’s look at the large picture of a child leading those ferocious animals. Not only are their ferocious natures changed, but they are led by a child. This means that they are controlled and used by childlike forces. These forces are specially love and gentleness. It is true they do not win by negative force; but all the most winning forces.
In the testimonies of Jesus Christ he has always told us about the power of these great forces of love and gentleness and how to use them. Subsequently, more and more day by day, and year by year, he who has been saved and has become a little child by nature is leading and controlling the human wolves, leopards, bears, and lions. The Spirit and power of Christ changes man’s very nature and makes the helpers and workers for the Kingdom of Christ. Christ and those that have become just as he is, are changing and conquering the world, not by war or destruction but in a movement of rebuilding through love and kindness through righteousness .
A world-wide kingdom or empire my brothers and sisters has been the dream of man in all ages. The unfortunate reality is that no one has ever been ever to realize this dream, even in the lowly plane of man’s earthy and selfish ambition. However, Jesus the Christ, the God who became man and back to God again, along with the Father, had this mandate of a world- wide kingdom and He came down from heaven to establish it. We have seen through the bible that it will be a Kingdom of blessings, peace, and will be founded on love. No mere man has ever even thought of these things.
The Millennium And the Kingdom of Christ
Christ has not only thought of them, but has supposed to secure them. This world empire will be accomplished by two ways. One is by binding and controlling the evil so that it cannot do any harm anywhere. The other is by giving the Gospel to the world, and the covering of the whole earth with the blessings of the Gospel, “as the waters cover the sea.“
The coming of Christ’s Kingdom or the Millennium is absolutely certain, for God says that “it shall be.” We see that it is already accomplished in the purpose of God, and that is a definite assurance that it will be accomplished in the hearts and lives of men everywhere. Readers, it is therefore necessary for us to do two things. One is to consecrate ourselves wholly to this King and Kingdom. The other is to dedicate all our powers, time, work, prayers, and money to the extension of Christ’s Kingdom in all the earth. Then speedily shall the kingdoms of this world “become the Kingdom of our Lord and His Christ.”
May God give us all Grace and Peace in Jesus name….Amen Amen!
